The new primary health care facility at Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot will be named Brook House; in honour of Ruby Brook, a teacher at the Heatherwood Hospital school between 1942 and 1966.
Ruby Brook joined Heatherwood Hospital school as a temporary teacher in March 1942. She took a permanent post in 1949, and over the years taught hundreds of children between the ages of 3 and 15 on the hospital wards. Ruby retired in 1966 and died in 1999 aged 95.
Dr Andrew Fanning, Senior Partner at Green Meadows Surgery said: “Despite the current pandemic, work on the new primary care site at Heatherwood has been going ahead as planned. We hope that the new building will be fully constructed by mid–December.”
“Once everything has been completed, all administration staff, doctors and nurses of Green Meadows Surgery and Ascot Medical Centre will move in together.”
He continued: “We very much hope to be able to welcome all our patients into the new purpose-built site in early spring 2021.”
Dr Edward Williams, Senior Partner at Ascot Medical Centre, said: “Co-locating the two practices will enable multiple professional teams to work together resulting in better outcomes for our community, bringing care closer to home in a bespoke facility.”
“The new facilities within Brook House have been designed to meet the needs of the local population, with improved access for people who are frail or who have disabilities.”
Ascot Medical Centre is currently based in the acute hospital site at Heatherwood, which is being completely redeveloped by Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT). Green Meadows surgery is currently situated in Winkfield, Ascot.
